President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing a U.S. Space Academy, intended to train people seeking to join the U.S. Space Force and support NASA and the civilian spaceflight sector. The proposal would create a specialist military academy comparable in status to West Point and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, potentially expanding the institutional infrastructure around American space operations.

Trump said the academy’s location had not yet been chosen and that he would decide it shortly. He announced the order at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where he also awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the four Artemis II astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
