Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator convicted of child sexual abuse, has been granted an evidentiary hearing after one accuser withdrew his previous allegations. The hearing does not overturn Sandusky’s convictions, but will allow a judge to examine whether the recantation and related claims warrant further post-conviction relief.

Sandusky, 82, is serving a 30-to-60-year sentence imposed after his 2012 conviction on 45 counts. His lawyers argue that the recanting witness, identified as R.R., was influenced by therapy and suggestive interviews, while prosecutors dispute those claims and seek to limit the hearing to the recantation itself; they also allege that a Sandusky investigator encouraged R.R. to recant. The hearing is scheduled for 8 September at 9:30am in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
