Talent agents represent performers in negotiations with studios, production companies and other employers, and help guide their careers. Melissa Hirschenson spent more than two decades at Innovative Artists Entertainment, a talent agency, after starting out in casting in the 1990s.

Her former clients included actors Pedro Pascal, Kathryn Newton and Jodie Turner-Smith. The Hirschenson Group is a management and consulting business, a different form of representation that can advise clients and help develop career opportunities across established and newer parts of entertainment.

The move comes as actors and other creators work across film, television and digital platforms, and pursue partnerships beyond traditional productions. How representation is organised can affect who helps shape those careers and how opportunities are negotiated.
