A bid to recall Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has been withdrawn after its organisers missed a court filing deadline and faced criticism from the judge handling the case. The dismissal leaves Wilson in post for now, although the couple behind the petition may restart the process and her lawyers have warned of possible sanctions if they do so.

Melinda Jacobson and Dale Osterud filed recall charges on 11 August, alleging failures over public safety, including the response to a shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival, crime concerns in several areas and CCTV policy. After missing a deadline, they said family matters had taken them out of town and later sought to withdraw the case while they investigated unspecified new information. Judge Patrick Oishi dismissed the petition without prejudice and cancelled a hearing that had been scheduled for 31 August.
