Commentators criticised McIlroy for repeating the same mistake and said he makes more self-inflicted errors than world number one Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy recovered to post a one-under-par round and stood three under for the tournament, tied 22nd among 30 players and six shots behind leader Ryan Gerard.
