Grand Theft Auto VI is due to launch on 19 November, with new previews and interviews revealing more about its gameplay, scale and story systems. The reported features suggest Rockstar is expanding ideas from Red Dead Redemption 2, particularly through player choices, character development and more persistent consequences from police attention.

The game reportedly has a map twice the size of GTA V’s and an estimated 80-hour playthrough including some optional narrative content, while Vice City is said to be far larger than Los Santos. Players can switch rapidly between protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, whose relationship can develop in different ways, and will encounter systems for digital car theft, vehicle tracking, six-star police pursuit, disguise changes, fitness and numerous leisure activities.

  • GTA VI launches on 19 November with expanded open-world systems.
  • Choices, relationships and police tracking appear more consequential.
  • The game reportedly offers a huge map and lengthy story.

Grand Theft Auto is a long-running series of open-world crime games made by Rockstar Games. Players are usually given a fictional American city to explore, with missions following characters involved in robberies, gangs and other criminal activity.

Grand Theft Auto VI is the next main game in the series, following 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V. It is set in the fictional state of Leonida, including a version of Miami known as Vice City, and centres on two playable characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

The series is significant because its games are major entertainment releases, often attracting large audiences and shaping expectations for open-world games. Rockstar’s previous title, Red Dead Redemption 2, is also relevant because it used detailed character and consequence systems that reports suggest may influence the new game.
