Most modern Android phones support wired Android Auto

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Most Android phones running official software can use Android Auto, which mirrors key phone functions such as messaging, calls, music and navigation on a compatible car display. It matters because it offers a more regularly updated alternative to built-in vehicle infotainment systems, though compatibility depends on both the phone and the car.

Nearly all stock Android phones sold since 2018 and running Android 9 or later support wired Android Auto; Android 10 introduced it pre-installed. Wireless use requires Android 11 or later plus 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, while Google says more than 500 vehicle models support the service. Phones using custom or de-Googled operating systems, including GrapheneOS and some CalyxOS versions, may require manual setup or lack support by default.

  • Most recent Android phones support wired Android Auto.
  • Wireless use needs Android 11 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  • Custom Android software may need extra configuration.
