Wings’ 1978 single “With A Little Luck” became a US No. 1 despite serious instability within the band during the making of London Town. The song’s optimistic lyrics and gentle synthesiser-led sound contrasted with the departures and dismissals happening behind the scenes, illustrating Paul McCartney’s ability to produce commercially successful, upbeat music amid disruption.

Part of London Town was recorded aboard the yacht Fair Carol in the Virgin Islands in May 1977, while Linda McCartney was pregnant. Lead guitarist Jimmy McCulloch was dismissed and drummer Joe English later left, leaving Wings as a trio before Lawrence Juber and Steve Holley joined; Holley appeared in the single’s video, although English played drums on the recording. “With A Little Luck” was Wings’ final hit on that scale, and after 1979’s Back To The Egg, McCartney ended the band and returned to solo work.
