Leicestershire’s openers Rishi Patel and Sheridon Gumbs successfully resisted Yorkshire in difficult bowling conditions on a rain-affected third day at Scarborough. With more than 140 overs already lost to weather, the Division One County Championship match is increasingly likely to end in a draw, which would help Leicestershire’s effort to avoid relegation but frustrate Yorkshire’s title ambitions.

After Yorkshire were dismissed for 263, Leicestershire resumed at 12 without loss following a delayed start caused by a wet outfield. Patel was unbeaten on 41 from 106 balls as the pair reached 84-0 before rain stopped play after only 31.5 overs; Yorkshire all-rounder George Hill also left the field with a knee concern during his sixth over.
