Britain's unbeaten heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma suffered a shock defeat to Filip Hrgovic in London after appearing to punch himself out during a dramatic vacant IBF world-title fight. The 21-year-old, tipped as heavyweight boxing's next superstar, had dominated much of the contest and floored Hrgovic in the second round, but his relentless work rate left him fading badly as the fight progressed.

Hrgovic, an Olympic bronze medallist whose only professional loss came against Daniel Dubois, absorbed the early pressure and turned the fight around by the ninth round, when Itauma was left unsteady on his feet and slumped in the corner, prompting his corner to throw in the towel. Itauma required medical attention and left the arena on a stretcher; victory would have made him the second-youngest world champion in heavyweight history, but instead his inexperience proved costly after he had won all 14 of his previous professional bouts.
