New Pokémon Movie Officially Confirmed
The Pokémon Company has officially announced Pokémon: Wild Card, a new anime feature film due for release in 2027, marking the franchise's first fresh theatrical movie announcement in several years. The reveal came as a closing surprise at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, timed to coincide with Pokémon's 30th anniversary celebrations, and signals the franchise's long-awaited return to feature-length animation.
The film was unveiled to a packed Chase Center audience following the conclusion of this year's competitive events, with a teaser notably centring on the Pokémon Trading Card Game rather than a conventional battle, showing two players facing off over cards on a table. This marks a significant departure for the series, whose last animated movie, Secrets of the Jungle, debuted in Japan in 2020 before reaching Netflix internationally in 2021. No cast or plot details have yet been confirmed, but the focus on the TCG follows a weekend in which top players competed across the TCG, VGC, Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE categories for World Championship titles.
