Transfer latest: Juventus in Woltemade loan talks, Everton pushing for Balogun

The Guardian ·

Newcastle's Nick Woltemade is closing in on a loan move to Juventus, just a year after his £69m club-record signing from Stuttgart, as the Germany forward has failed to settle under either Eddie Howe or current manager Matthias Jaissle. The switch hinges on Newcastle first bringing in a replacement forward, with Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo their top target. Elsewhere, Everton are negotiating with Monaco to sign USA striker Folarin Balogun as a replacement for Beto, who is set to join Fiorentina, while Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are also active before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Newcastle are negotiating a loan fee of around £5m with Juventus for the 24-year-old Woltemade, with Borussia Dortmund also interested; Jacob Murphy, Nick Pope and Joe Willock could also depart St James' Park before deadline day. Everton's move for Balogun, who scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 last season, follows their acceptance of a roughly £15m Fiorentina offer for Beto. Palace are set to loan in Atalanta's Honest Ahanor ahead of a £40m permanent Chelsea move next summer, while Forest are closing a £22m deal for Palace's Daniel Muñoz, though their bid for Dean Henderson was rejected; Liverpool are also monitoring Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr.
