Soleil Moon Frye's documentary "Werewolf in the Waves," which chronicles her relationship with late Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock, has gained new executive producers in Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way and Emmy-winning producer Dax Dasilva. The film, shot largely by Frye on her iPhone, began as a chronicle of Crazy Town's comeback tour but evolved into a love story after she reconnected with childhood friend Seth Binzer, known as Shifty. The project took a tragic turn when Binzer relapsed on drugs and died of an accidental overdose in summer 2024, reshaping the documentary's focus.

Frye, who previously directed the Hulu documentary "Kid 90" with Appian Way, is joined as executive producer by Appian Way's Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson, Dasilva, and Binzer's sisters Aubrey Binzer and Mieke Binzer Dumont. Dasilva, an Emmy winner for "Wildcat" and founder of Lightspeed Commerce, said he was drawn to the film's unfiltered depiction of addiction and its message of hope. The documentary, which has already screened at several film festivals, aims to foster understanding around addiction and mental health, following Frye's other work including "The Carters: Hurts to Love You."
