Cast members of The Pitt, led by Noah Wyle, performed a live table read of the original 1966 Star Trek pilot script at a Writers Guild Foundation benefit on Sunday, blending two eras of television for a charity cause. The Retro Reads event, held at The Lodge in Highland Park, raised funds for the foundation's writing and mentorship programmes and drew a sold-out crowd eager to see the actors take on the iconic roles.

Wyle played Captain Kirk, with Katherine LaNasa as Dr McCoy and Taylor Dearden as Spock in a reading of "The Man Trap", while Fiona Dourif and surprise guest Clark Gregg took supporting parts. The evening also featured a reading of the 1973 animated episode "Mudd's Passion", with Nathan Fillion as Kirk and D'Arcy Carden as Spock, alongside appearances from Iman Vellani, Paul Scheer and Paul F. Tompkins. Rod Roddenberry, son of series creator Gene Roddenberry, attended to mark the foundation's 60th anniversary alongside Star Trek's own 60th anniversary, and Wyle was presented with a stuffed Tribble by Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Henry Alonzo Meyers.
