A Nevada jury has found Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former Compton gang leader, guilty of first-degree murder over the 1996 drive-by shooting death of rapper and actor Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas, ending nearly three decades of unresolved questions about the killing. Davis, 63, said immediately after the verdict that he intends to appeal, and remains in custody ahead of sentencing, when he could face life imprisonment.

Jurors deliberated for less than three hours following closing arguments in the three-week trial, a swift outcome given that Davis had previously admitted, including in his 2019 memoir, to being in the car from which the fatal shots were fired. Shakur, 25, was struck by four bullets while riding in a vehicle near the MGM Grand on the night of a Mike Tyson boxing match, and died in hospital six days later; his death, along with the still-unsolved 1997 killing of the Notorious B.I.G., has since fuelled numerous theories and inspired multiple documentaries and films. Sentencing is scheduled for 13 October before Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny.
