A second Australian has been found alive following the catastrophic floods and ice avalanche that struck Nepal's Himalayan region last week, the Albanese government confirmed. The unnamed individual is receiving support from Australian consular officials and has been in contact with family, offering some relief amid a disaster that has left hundreds dead and thousands missing across the country. This follows the earlier discovery of 26-year-old Cara Severino from Wollongong, who survived by joining a group fleeing on a tractor near Langtang National Park.

The number of unaccounted-for Australians now stands at 42, while nationally 3,925 people remain missing and 939 are confirmed dead. Severino described being helped to safety by fellow hikers named Sudha, Lucas, Samir and Saugat, and spoke of the devastation faced by local Nepalese communities, some of whom lost entire families and towns. Her parents called her survival a "miracle" and thanked Australian consular teams for their efforts. Many of the missing Australians had been travelling on pilgrimage tours to Mount Kailash, a site sacred to several religions, during what is normally the peak summer trekking season.
