Dyson has unveiled the CameraJet, a $500 electric toothbrush that combines brushing, flossing and rinsing into a single device fitted with a built-in camera. The launch marks the company's latest foray into an unexpected product category, following its expansion into headphones and wearable air purifiers, and reflects Dyson's attempt to apply its engineering expertise in fluid dynamics and motors to oral care.

The toothbrush uses a small onboard camera paired with machine learning trained on 470,000 dental images to detect gaps between teeth and fire targeted jets of fluid to floss while brushing, analysing 28 images per second and responding within 100 milliseconds. A companion MyDyson app allows users to view live footage of their mouth, receive personalised brushing feedback, and adjust intensity and jetting settings, while Dyson says no images are recorded or stored. The device also features an "anti-gravity" water tank designed to deliver controlled jets regardless of orientation, with the company saying it spent years refining the shape of the water stream to improve plaque removal.
