British men's number one Arthur Fery is making his senior US Open debut, having climbed from outside the world's top 300 a year ago to a career-high ranking of 33rd following his surprise run to the Wimbledon semi-finals. The 24-year-old opens against Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti on Tuesday, a challenging draw as Fery narrowly missed out on a seeding, which is reserved for the top 32 players in the tournament.

Fery has continued to build momentum since Wimbledon, reaching an ATP Masters win over James Duckworth in Cincinnati before losing to world number eight Alex de Minaur, then finishing runner-up at the ATP 250 event in Winston-Salem after four victories in as many days. He also took a deliberate month off after Wimbledon to rest mentally and spend time with friends and family before returning to the tour. His opponent, Musetti, reached the US Open quarter-finals last year and the Australian Open last eight in January, though a thigh injury kept him out of the French Open and Wimbledon this season.
