CD Projekt Red has confirmed it cannot guarantee a physical disc edition of The Witcher 4 on PlayStation 5, saying the outcome rests entirely with Sony rather than the studio itself. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski told The Game Business at Gamescom that discs for first-party platforms must be produced in the platform holder's own factories, and Sony currently plans to stop PS5 disc manufacturing from January 2028 — the same year The Witcher 4 is due, making a clash likely.

Nowakowski, who recently narrowed the game's release window to 2028, said it remains unclear whether Sony's cut-off will be a hard deadline or a gradual phase-out, and no specific release date has been set. Regardless of the outcome, CD Projekt Red has pledged to produce a physical collector's box containing "feelies" for fans. In the meantime, the studio is releasing The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion next year, alongside a remastered version of The Witcher 3 with overhauled combat, enemy behaviour and skill trees, arriving 29 September.
