Silo showrunner Graham Yost has confirmed that musician Peter Gabriel's on-screen character survives the nuclear apocalypse depicted in the Apple TV+ drama, after the 76-year-old made a surprise cameo in last week's episode singing his 1986 track "Here Comes The Flood". The appearance came during a flashback to the public unveiling of the silos, and matters because it hints at a possible link between Gabriel's character and Steve Zahn's future-timeline character Jimmy, whom Yost suggested could be a distant descendant.

Speaking to Mashable ahead of Friday's season finale, Yost revealed that Gabriel and his family make it into silo 17 moments before the blast, and said there is "a non-zero chance" of a family bloodline connecting Gabriel's character to Jimmy, though the writers haven't fully mapped it out. Yost, best known for creating Justified, said he and Gabriel became friendly through the show after an earlier, unrealised pitch in season one, and that Gabriel's family were already fans before he agreed to appear alongside his son and the son's girlfriend. Gabriel had previously lent songs "Red Rain" and "Come Talk To Me" to the series without appearing himself, and Yost acknowledged the choice of "Here Comes The Flood" was "a little on the nose" given the show's themes.
