Belinda Carlisle's breakthrough solo single "Mad About You" was originally written for The Go-Go's, the pioneering all-female band she fronted before its 1985 split. The song had been intended for a possible fourth Go-Go's album, but after the band fell apart amid internal tensions, Carlisle took the track with her into her solo career, where it became the song that launched her success as an independent artist.

Written by Paula Jean Brown (who briefly replaced Jane Wiedlin in the band) alongside James Whelan and Mitchell Evans, "Mad About You" featured former Go-Go's Charlotte Caffey and Wiedlin on backing vocals, plus Duran Duran's Andy Taylor on lead guitar. Released in 1986 as the lead single from her album Belinda, it reached number three on the pop charts and steered her sound towards a more adult contemporary style, setting the tone for her subsequent solo career.
