Vivian Kubrick, daughter of director Stanley Kubrick, has publicly rejected a long-running conspiracy theory claiming her father's final film, 1999's Eyes Wide Shut, was secretly recut after his death to remove 20 minutes of darker footage, including an ending involving a child sex ring and links to Jeffrey Epstein. She posted a detailed rebuttal on X, addressing claims that had been amplified in recent years, notably by screenwriter Roger Avary on Joe Rogan's podcast in 2024, and tagged both Rogan and Alex Jones in her response.

The theory alleged that Kubrick's original cut ran 179 minutes rather than the released 159, with a much darker finale that Warner Bros. supposedly forced the studio to alter following his sudden death. Vivian, who worked closely with her father on several films, said she never heard of any missing footage at the time or since, and explained that once a film reaches "picture lock" the original negative is physically cut to match the final edit, making later restoration of deleted scenes technically implausible. She noted the only change she was aware of was the use of CGI to obscure nudity in the orgy scene to secure an R rating, and said she regards the missing-footage story as an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory rather than an established fact.
