Owner of L.A. Rams and Denver Nuggets Buys Los Angeles Angels Baseball Team
Kroenke Sports and Entertainment has agreed to buy a majority stake in the Los Angeles Angels from longtime owner Arte Moreno, adding Major League Baseball to a portfolio that already includes the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Arsenal. The deal, expected to close in the first quarter of 2027 pending MLB approval, gives the Angels access to Kroenke's much larger Southern California sports and entertainment operations, including SoFi Stadium and the Hollywood Park district, at a time when the team has long played second fiddle to the Los Angeles Dodgers and faced fan frustration over a perceived lack of investment under Moreno.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Sportico estimated the price at roughly $4 billion, slightly above the $3.9 billion paid for the San Diego Padres earlier in 2026. Moreno, who bought the Angels from Disney in 2003 for about $185 million shortly after their World Series win, first put the team up for sale in 2022. Both Kroenke and the Moreno family issued statements welcoming the transition, with Moreno citing 23 years stewarding the franchise and confidence in Kroenke's experience going forward.
