Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder has singled out the making of the 1975 album One of These Nights as one of the most enjoyable periods of his time with the band, despite his notoriously bitter split from the group in later years. He joined the Eagles as a hired-gun guitarist after Bernie Leadon, though skilled, lacked the harder rock edge the band needed, and Felder quickly proved his worth with contributions such as the solo on "Already Gone" from the previous record, On the Border.

Felder recalled the particular thrill of hearing the title track "One of These Nights", featuring his bassline and guitar solo, played on the radio for the first time shortly after recording it, describing it as "a kick in the pants" and a validation of the band's work in the studio. The album marked a turning point for the Eagles, following the more subdued Desperado and blending their country-rock roots with a disco-influenced groove, and came just before the band's breakthrough with Hotel California, when the line-up still felt like a genuine democratic collaboration.
