Germany has suffered a second suspected sabotage attack on its electricity infrastructure, deepening fears that Russia is waging a hybrid campaign against the country's critical infrastructure. The latest incident, at a substation near Bergheim, came a day after a power installation near the Janschwalde coal plant in Brandenburg was struck by home-made explosive rockets, and just one day after Berlin formally accused Moscow of being behind an explosive drone found at Leipzig airport last month.

Police are investigating the Bergheim incident as premeditated vandalism, though grid operator Amprion said power supply and stability were maintained throughout. At Janschwalde, operator LEAG confirmed unknown attackers damaged several lines on the transmission network, with additional undetonated devices later defused; Brandenburg's interior minister branded it an "act of sabotage" and noted the timing, days before a regional election in Saxony-Anhalt, was "extremely suspicious". Germany, a Nato member and Ukraine supporter, has repeatedly accused Russia of hybrid attacks including drone incursions and sabotage, allegations Moscow denies, and officials say the pattern mirrors previous "Russian hybrid operations".
