After 7 Hours, Lego Skylines Really Is the Perfect Twist on Cities Skylines

Polygon · 4 hours ago

Polygon has published impressions after spending several hours with a preview build of Lego Skylines, the upcoming spinoff from Paradox and Iceflake Studios that adapts the Cities: Skylines formula to a Lego setting. Unlike the mainline series, which focuses on large-scale urban planning, Lego Skylines shifts emphasis towards individual households and decoration, offering a gentler, more creative introduction to city building while retaining core simulation systems.

The preview covered both an early-game campaign scenario, where players fulfil requests from citizens to establish a small settlement, and a late-game save file showcasing more developed neighbourhoods. Households have standard needs such as employment, education and services, alongside a new "appeal" category met through decorative items like flower patches, statues and garden features across styles including Tudor and "Bricktorian". Players can also choose from multiple house variations and prop customisations, though the latter's limited selection may become a focus for modders. The preview writer noted some late-game balance concerns, including issues with rubbish accumulation, but came away optimistic about the game's distinct, decoration-led approach.
