They look cheesed off! Moment mice spar in front of commuters waiting for the Tube

Daily Mail · 3 hours ago

Commuters waiting for a Central Line train at Oxford Circus Underground station on Saturday were treated to an unexpected spectacle when two mice began sparring on the platform. Footage of the encounter shows the pair chasing each other in circles over what appeared to be a scrap of food, before escalating into a stand-off in which they reared up on their hind legs and appeared to throw punches, much to the amusement of onlookers. One mouse eventually emerged victorious, claiming the prize while its rival scurried away.

The clip, filmed with a passenger heard laughing and encouraging the mice in the background, closely echoed a famous 2020 photograph called "Station Squabble" by Sam Rowley, which beat 48,000 other entries to win the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. Rowley reportedly spent a week lying on Underground platforms overnight to capture the shot, noting that such fights over dropped food scraps were typically brief, lasting only a split second before the mice went their separate ways.
