Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner Are a Crypto-Era Bonnie & Clyde in First Look at Netflix’s New True Crime Series [Exclusive]

Netflix has unveiled a first-look image from *The Altruists*, an eight-episode limited series dramatising the rise and fall of FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange that collapsed in 2022 amid one of the largest financial fraud cases in US history. The show, created by Oscar-winning *The Imitation Game* writer Graham Moore, stars Anthony Boyle as FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner as his girlfriend Caroline Ellison, framing the pair as a "crypto-era Bonnie and Clyde" whose personal relationship drove the company's spectacular implosion.

Rather than retracing the well-documented financial and legal saga, Moore says the series focuses on the private, intimate side of the couple's relationship as they attempted to remake the global financial system before being accused of stealing more than $8 billion from investors. Bankman-Fried rose to briefly become one of America's richest people before his conviction on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy, while Ellison led FTX's trading arm, Alameda Research. Moore, who has spent four years developing the project, said the aim was to depict "moonlit bedroom" moments no journalist witnessed, offering a more sympathetic, character-driven take than existing news coverage.
