Nick Kyrgios has been given a one-month ban by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine, and he is now free to return to competition. The Australian was provisionally suspended in August after a sample taken during the Mallorca Open in June showed traces of a cocaine metabolite, which he said resulted from taking the drug at a nightclub in Magaluf shortly before the tournament began. The case matters because it adds another controversy to the career of a player already known for on-court outbursts and off-court criticism of tennis's anti-doping processes.

The ITIA accepted the drug use occurred out of competition and reduced Kyrgios's potential three-month ban to one month after he entered a treatment programme, with the suspension ending on 3 September. He also forfeits prize money of 6,570 euros (£5,650) and has fallen to 918th in the world rankings, having played just four singles matches this season amid ongoing knee and wrist injuries. Kyrgios, who reached the 2022 Wimbledon final, had previously branded the anti-doping bans handed to Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek as "disgusting", noting his own ban matches Swiatek's but is two months shorter than Sinner's.
