Microsoft has named its developer-focused Windows initiative "Project Zenith", offering a preconfigured, distraction-free setup aimed at software developers using new high-memory devices. The push builds on a similar effort first unveiled at Build earlier this year and forms part of Microsoft's broader campaign this year to improve Windows 11, this time targeting the specific needs of developers rather than general users.

Project Zenith is designed for devices with 64GB or more of unified memory, enabling developers to run AI models with over 30 billion parameters locally without incurring metered cloud costs. AMD unveiled the first such device, a mini PC powered by Ryzen AI Halo chips, at IFA, with further devices using different chipsets promised in the coming months. The devices come pre-loaded with tools including Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot and PowerToys, alongside tweaked File Explorer and Start menu settings that strip out notifications, tips and other distractions.
