Johnson has presented Inside the NBA since 1990, when TNT first acquired broadcasting rights, with Barkley joining a decade later following his own retirement from playing. The show draws huge audiences purely on chemistry rather than game analysis; in 2025 it averaged 3.5 million viewers after game six of the Pacers-Knicks Eastern Conference finals, compared with 8.1 million for the game itself. Barkley had previously threatened retirement amid uncertainty over Warner Bros. Discovery's NBA rights, before staying on to help the show transition to ESPN under Disney.
