Sheffield City Council has released new artist's impressions of a planned adventure and leisure park at the former Sheffield Ski Village site on Parkwood Springs, developed in partnership with New Zealand-based Skyline Enterprises. The scheme, which may eventually see the site's famous dry ski slopes reinstated, matters to the city because the location has stood derelict since the village closed in 2012 and has since suffered repeated arson and vandalism. A public consultation on the proposals is running until 20 September, giving residents a chance to shape the redevelopment before a formal planning application.

The first phase would introduce downhill three-wheeled karting, a chairlift, family facilities and a plaza with a café overlooking Sheffield, with later phases potentially adding a zip line, a surf wave experience and the possible return of the dry ski slopes. Talks between the council and Skyline began in 2022, though wider redevelopment plans date back a decade and are backed by £19m from the government's Levelling Up fund. Existing walking and cycling routes will remain publicly accessible, drop-in consultation events are being held on 9 and 10 September, and a planning application is expected by the end of 2026.
