Four community environmental projects in Devon have been shortlisted in the environmental category of BBC Radio Devon's Make a Difference Awards, recognised for making their local areas greener, wilder and healthier. The initiatives range from therapeutic gardening for NHS patients to tree planting, wildlife conservation and community education, highlighting the varied ways volunteers and professionals are strengthening green spaces and community bonds across the county.

The nominees are the Growing Well Garden in Bow, run by NHS GP Dr Susan Taheri as part of a green social prescribing scheme; Shallowford Farm on Dartmoor, where retired horticulturalist Charles Staniland teaches young people about nature and food; the Sampford Peverell Tree Wardens in mid-Devon, a volunteer group that has planted around 750 trees as a wildlife corridor; and Sustainable Hatherleigh, which runs bug hunts, community composting and a repair café, and whose site has been designated a county wildlife site. The award winners will be announced on 24 September at Buckfast Abbey.
