Daniel Radcliffe's 2012 horror film "The Woman in Black" has been added to Paramount+, giving a new generation of viewers access to what was actually his first leading role after the "Harry Potter" franchise concluded in 2011. The film marked a deliberate departure from the superhero-heavy roles many young actors pursued at the time, and was notable for reviving the Gothic horror style associated with the classic British studio Hammer Films, harking back to horror cinema of the 1950s and 1960s.

Directed by James Watkins, who later made the "Speak No Evil" remake and is now working on DC's "Clayface", the film sees Radcliffe play a young solicitor sent to a remote, haunted manor house to sort through a deceased client's papers. He starred alongside Ciarán Hinds and Janet McTeer. The film was a commercial success, taking around $130 million worldwide on a $15 million budget, and holds a 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics noting its old-fashioned, low-gore approach to scares. It was followed by a 2014 sequel, "The Woman in Black: Angel of Death", starring Jeremy Irvine.
