Apple is preparing an "iPhone Handoff" feature for iOS 27, due later this month, which lets two iPhones share a single phone number, switching seamlessly between a main device and a "companion" handset. The feature was briefly teased at June's WWDC keynote without detail, and its timing appears linked to Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone Ultra, giving users a way to leave the larger, pricier device at home and carry a smaller, cheaper phone instead while keeping the same number active.

Details of the setup process have now emerged via a demo clip showing the feature configured through Device Hub in Xcode 27, Apple's developer tool. However, Handoff will depend on carrier support to work, and code references so far point only to T-Mobile US and Germany's Telekom.de, meaning wider availability with other networks remains unconfirmed.
