Laser Guy is a twin-stick “anti-shooter” about a stressed out game developer who can’t stop shooting laser beams from his eye

Rock Paper Shotgun · 3 hours ago

Laser Guy is a newly announced twin-stick "anti-shooter" in which players control a stressed video game developer whose anxiety causes him to fire uncontrollable, lethal laser beams from his eye. Rather than aiming at enemies, the goal is to navigate levels without accidentally killing co-workers caught in the beam's path, inverting the usual shooter formula into one of careful movement and avoidance.

Players can use destructible furniture to block their laser and shield colleagues, while levels introduce hazards such as smokescreens hiding wandering co-workers and instantly lethal explosive devices. Some sections require reflecting the beam to charge batteries and open doors, adding a puzzle element alongside the survival mechanics. The game has a retro, browser-game aesthetic reminiscent of old Nitrome titles, and a playtest is currently open for sign-up on Steam.

  • Laser Guy is a twin-stick game about avoiding, not causing, kills
