Essex Police seized a Lamborghini Huracan worth more than £200,000 after receiving multiple reports of dangerous driving in Southend on Saturday afternoon, with the car suspected of travelling at more than double the speed limit. The seizure was carried out under strengthened powers in the Police Reform Act, which now allow officers to confiscate vehicles immediately for causing alarm, distress or annoyance, without first issuing a warning. Police said tackling antisocial driving remains a priority given the danger it poses to other road users and the disruption it causes residents.

The Huracan has an on-the-road retail price of £238,195, according to Autotrader. Previously, drivers could only have their car seized if they had a prior antisocial driving incident within the past 12 months, though officers retain discretion to issue warnings instead. The case follows a separate incident days earlier in which Greater Manchester Police seized five Lamborghinis and a Mercedes G-Wagon after a convoy of supercars was seen racing, weaving across lanes and performing wheelspins on the M62 and M66, with drivers now facing prosecution for careless driving.
