Ed Miliband has come under fire from a senior Trump administration figure after posting a video condemning conditions in Gaza and pledging that the UK Government would "act decisively". Miliband, who is Jewish, said in an Instagram video that he had just met people who had been in Gaza and described accounts of blocked medicines and children dying awaiting treatment as "horrific". Israel's foreign ministry rejected this, stating that no medical supplies are being restricted and that 22,500 tonnes have entered Gaza since the ceasefire began. Andy Burnham is said to be considering announcing sanctions on Israel within days, a move demanded by Labour's left, while shadow foreign secretary Tom Tugendhat warned that West Bank sanctions could damage UK national security given Israel's role as an intelligence partner. The dispute comes ahead of Burnham's expected first face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump, possibly at the UN General Assembly in New York this month.
