Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart was seen out with her husband Fernando and one-year-old daughter August in Sydney on Father's Day, appearing in good spirits during a walk in the coastal area of the city's east where she used to swim regularly. The outing came days after she gave a detailed 60 Minutes interview about surviving a great white shark attack at Coogee Beach, and shortly after Melbourne radio hosts publicly questioned the credibility of her account, prompting a wave of public sympathy and support for her in response.

Stewart, 35, was attacked on 13 June, spent ten days in a coma and had her left arm amputated, along with significant damage to her left leg and right arm. In her television interview she described the shark's "beady eyes", recalled thinking of her daughter as she fought back by punching the animal, and explained she used her left arm because she was "more willing to lose" it. After the interview aired, 101.9 The Fox hosts Kate Langbroek, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody suggested she had exaggerated details, remarks Stewart said she had not personally heard as she had been focused on rehabilitation, adding that everyone present at the beach and her medical team "know what happened".
