Jamie Vardy has signed for Burnley until the end of the season, joining a club bottom of the Championship and yet to win a match this term. The 39-year-old striker, Leicester City's record Premier League scorer, arrives as a free agent after leaving Italian side Cremonese in the summer, bringing experience and leadership to a struggling squad under new manager Nicky Hayen.

Vardy scored 145 Premier League goals and 200 in all competitions across 500 appearances during 13 years at Leicester, having joined from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012, and won 26 England caps. Burnley, relegated from the Premier League last season, have lost their last five matches, including a 2-1 home defeat by Bristol City in which they conceded twice in the final ten minutes.
