Sabrina Carpenter has celebrated her first Emmy win after "The Muppet Show", the ABC/Disney+ variety special she hosted, took home Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. The win moves the singer, who already holds two Grammy Awards, a step closer to EGOT status, and marks a milestone for the Jim Henson franchise as it attempts to revive interest in the Muppets for a new television series.

Carpenter shared her delight on Instagram, thanking the Television Academy and praising the "hard work and diva fights" behind the special. The special functions as a backdoor pilot that could lead to a full new Muppet Show series, following the original programme's 1976-81 run across more than 100 countries with guest stars including Elton John and Diana Ross. It was directed by Alex Timbers and produced across 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, with all five original seasons currently streaming on Disney+.
