Police in Damariscotta, Maine, resolved a wave of Bigfoot sightings after an unusually high number of calls prompted an investigation, ultimately finding that the "creature" was a man wearing a highly realistic costume. The department confirmed via Facebook that "Bigfoot is not real" in this case, closing the case without any wildlife or safety concerns arising from the incident.

The Damariscotta Police Department said an officer located the individual and, after speaking with him, established he was dressed in what they called a "very convincing costume". Rather than treating the episode as a letdown, the department praised residents for their vigilance and community spirit, saying the sightings had revealed "a town full of people willing to stop what they're doing to investigate a Bigfoot sighting and keep each other safe".
