Daily Mail · 56 minutes ago

A 22-year-old pregnant woman from California has died after being taken off life support, having been shot in the head alongside her sister in an attack that also killed her unborn child. Adriana Jimenez and her sister, Maria Fernanda Jimenez, were sitting in a car in an alleyway near their Canoga Park home when they were shot on 23 August; Adriana, who was 16 weeks pregnant, was declared brain dead and her family removed her from life support nine days later. A man has since been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting, with prosecutors indicating charges may be upgraded following her death.

Maria Fernanda Jimenez was shot in the neck and, although left unable to speak, is expected to survive. Walter Rodriguez Garcia, 30, who reportedly had a relationship with another passenger in the car, was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder; he has pleaded not guilty. Adriana leaves behind a six-year-old daughter and had arrived in the US from El Salvador only two years earlier. Her family, who had been planning her birthday and a gender reveal party, are now considering repatriating her body and have launched a GoFundMe to cover funeral and medical costs.
