Coventry City Council is set to begin work improving access and wildlife habitats at Longford Nature Park, a small reserve recognised by the council as being of high importance to biodiversity in the city. The scheme aims to make the site easier for people to enjoy while protecting the species already living there, reflecting the council's wider emphasis on the health and wellbeing benefits of green spaces.

The improvements will include a new boardwalk over muddy sections of the park, litter-picking and the creation of shallow wetland habitats, funded through Section 106 money paid by developers for major local building projects. The work will be carried out by the council's urban ranger team alongside volunteers from the Friends of Longford Park. Longford Nature Park sits opposite the larger Longford Park, which also serves as a public path linking the Coventry Building Society Arena and the Coventry Canal.
