Lenovo has released the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition, a refreshed version of its flagship business laptop that retains the classic ThinkPad look while cutting weight to just 2.2 pounds thanks to a new metal "Space Frame" chassis. The redesign is aimed primarily at long-time ThinkPad users and IT administrators rather than new customers, but Engadget's review found it a notable improvement over the 2024 model, with a lighter build, better cooling and an upgraded display making it one of the more compelling entries in the line.

The laptop features a 14-inch 2.8K OLED screen running at 120Hz with a matte anti-glare coating, and can be configured with Intel's Ultra X7 chips and Xe graphics, though the reviewed base model used a Core Ultra 7 355 processor, basic Intel graphics, 32GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. A smaller, double-sided system board (20% more compact) freed up space for a fan 70% larger than before, improving thermal performance and enabling support for higher-wattage 30-watt CPUs. The keyboard, trackpad and signature red TrackPoint nub remain comfortable and functional, though the review notes the trackpad is still an older haptic design and the case retains Lenovo's traditional corporate aesthetic.
