A father and daughter died when their light aircraft crashed and caught fire in a paddock at Chambers Flat, near Logan in southeast Queensland, just eight minutes after taking off from Brisbane's Archerfield Airport on Monday. Ian Campbell, 56, founder of the organic dairy brand Barambah Organics, and his daughter Hannah, 23, were flying together when air traffic control recordings suggested radio trouble, and witnesses reported hearing the engine struggling before the plane banked and went down.

Flight data showed the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza was cleared for take-off at 10.57am, reached 1,000ft by 11am, then spent roughly five minutes descending before crashing at 11.05am, sparking a grass fire; it remains unclear whether a mayday call was made. Three Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators were sent to the scene, while some aviation enthusiasts speculated the pair may have been attempting to reach a nearby grass airstrip after an engine failure. Mr Campbell, who learned to fly at Archerfield in 1999 and had recently completed the Kokoda Trail with his wife and Hannah, was remembered by Barambah Organics chief executive Chris Elliott as leaving a lasting legacy, with the firm's roughly 100 staff gathering to share their condolences.
