An RSPCA branch in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire is appealing for new homes after two rescue dogs in its care gave birth to a combined litter of 21 puppies within days of each other. The unexpected arrivals have put significant strain on the centre's staff and resources, and the charity is now asking the public both to consider adopting a puppy and to donate food and supplies.

Five-year-old Cane Corso Kila, rescued from a property in Doncaster in July over welfare concerns, gave birth to 14 puppies on 3 August, the largest litter the centre has ever recorded, though three did not survive. Another dog, Susie, had already given birth to ten puppies on 28 July after arriving at the centre pregnant. Eleven of the surviving pups, named Cedric, Clark, Cornelius, Guinness, Jones, Lorenzo, Lucille, Marion, Roderick, Sarah and Winnie, will be ready for adoption from 28 September, with staff also inviting interest in adopting Kila and Susie themselves.
