Tokyo's TIFFCOM market has launched its first partnership with Frontières, the genre-focused co-production market run by Canada's Fantasia International Film Festival, bringing a wave of horror and thriller titles into this year's Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM). The tie-up marks Frontières' first showcase in Asia and expands TGFM's seventh edition, which connects 24 feature projects from 24 countries with industry experts to help close remaining financing gaps, provided each project already has at least 60% of its budget secured and an Asian element.

The genre slate includes Boo Junfeng's thriller "Trinity" and Kevin Rahardjo's "The Land of Jinn," alongside a five-project Frontières Showcase featuring work from Brazilian and Vietnamese directors. A new open pitch event with Imagica Group will see 10 projects present on 28 October, animation makes up five of the 24 selections, and Italy's Cinecittà returns for a third year with three co-productions. Japan is involved in 12 of the 24 projects, and past TGFM alumni include Annecy winner "The Violinist" and Sundance award-winner "Filipiñana." TGFM runs from 28-30 October as part of TIFFCOM 2026, alongside the Tokyo International Film Festival.
