Ubisoft has revealed Echoes of Central Park, a new expansion for The Division 2 that returns the series to New York City and takes players into Central Park for the first time. Creative director Yannick Banchereau told Polygon at Gamescom 2026 that the DLC will be the darkest story the franchise has told, leaning into a horror-tinged tone, though he was clear it is not intended as a bridge to the long-rumoured The Division 3.

The expansion will explore Central Park's mysterious in-game history as a mass burial ground from the pandemic outbreak, drawing on urban legends about "monsters" living in the woods, alongside a new Upper West Side setting chosen for its contrast with the series' usual grim atmosphere. It follows earlier expansions Warlords of New York (2020) and Battle for Brooklyn (2025), continuing Ubisoft's decade-long focus on hyper-detailed recreations of New York and Washington, D.C., even as the wider franchise has struggled, including the 2024 cancellation of spin-off The Division Heartland.
