Netflix has released the first trailer for The Mosquito Bowl, a World War II epic directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) and adapted from Buzz Bissinger's nonfiction book of the same name. The film follows four real-life American college football stars who set aside their sporting fame to enlist in the Marines after the attack on Pearl Harbor, only to be thrust from youthful idealism into the brutal realities of combat. It marks one of Netflix's more high-profile releases of the year and continues Berg's recurring focus on brotherhood and men under extreme pressure.

The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as John McLaughry, Bill Skarsgård as Bob Baumann, Ray Nicholson as Tony Butkovich and Tom Francis as David Schreiner, with supporting roles for Brent Comer, Dominic Bogart, Jack Ingram and Ella Newton. Shot in Queensland and northern New South Wales, Australia, the production used the local landscape to double for Marine training grounds and the Pacific Theatre, with Berg praising the region as "cinematic gold" for the story. The Mosquito Bowl opens in select cinemas on 30 October before streaming on Netflix from 25 November.
